Both metal and wood framing have important applications in construction, but the right choice depends on the project.

Metal Framing

Light-gauge metal framing is widely used for commercial interior construction.

Common applications include:

  • Interior partitions

  • Full-height walls

  • Soffits

  • Bulkheads

  • Ceiling framing

  • Commercial tenant improvements

Metal studs provide consistent dimensions and work well with many commercial wall assemblies.

Wood Framing

Wood remains extremely common in residential construction and can be used for walls, additions, remodels, and other structural or nonstructural applications depending on the design.

Which One Should You Use?

The project drawings, building requirements, wall assemblies, structural requirements, and intended use of the space should determine the framing system.
